Description

Vasse Felix is a renowned winery located in the Margaret River region of Western Australia. The winery was established in 1967 by Dr. Tom Cullity, who was inspired by the great wines of Bordeaux. Today, Vasse Felix is one of the most respected wineries in Australia, known for producing exceptional wines that reflect the unique terroir of the Margaret River region.

One of Vasse Felix's most celebrated wines is the Heytesbury Chardonnay. This wine is named after the Heytesbury vineyard, which is located in the heart of the Margaret River region. The Heytesbury Chardonnay is made from grapes that are carefully selected from the best vineyards in the region. The grapes are handpicked and then gently pressed to extract the juice. The juice is then fermented in French oak barrels, where it undergoes malolactic fermentation to give it a rich, creamy texture.

The Heytesbury Chardonnay is a wine of great complexity and depth. It has a beautiful golden colour and a nose that is full of aromas of ripe peach, nectarine, and citrus. On the palate, the wine is rich and full-bodied, with flavours of ripe stone fruit, vanilla, and toasted oak. The wine has a long, lingering finish that is both elegant and complex.

Vasse Felix is committed to sustainable winemaking practices, and the Heytesbury Chardonnay is no exception. The winery uses a combination of organic and biodynamic farming methods to ensure that the grapes are grown in a healthy and sustainable environment. The winery also uses minimal intervention winemaking techniques to allow the natural flavours and aromas of the grapes to shine through in the finished wine.

Overall, the Heytesbury Chardonnay is a wine of exceptional quality and complexity. It is a testament to the skill and dedication of the winemakers at Vasse Felix, and a true reflection of the unique terroir of the Margaret River region. Whether you are a seasoned wine connoisseur or a casual wine drinker, the Heytesbury Chardonnay is a wine that is sure to impress.

Tasting notes

97 Points - The wine Advocate

The 2021 Heytesbury Chardonnay is as Heytesbury usually is—complex, firmly textured, coastal and briny, with layers of flesh and spice folded in on the palate. The wine ages tremendously, and the release cycle really does it no favours, as the wine seems to come into its own several years after release. It really is a shame about commercial reality! You get salted white peach, brine, saltbush, green apple skins, tea leaves, graphite/pencil box, tobacco leaf and cilantro. It's a sensational wine, and it will be even better in time.
