Description

Château Cos D'Estournel is a renowned winery located in the Saint-Estèphe appellation of the Bordeaux region in France. The history of this winery dates back to the early 19th century when Louis Gaspard d'Estournel, the founder of the estate, began producing wine. The winery was named after him and the word "Cos" was added to the name, which means "hill of pebbles" in the local dialect.

The winery is known for its unique style of production, which involves a blend of traditional and modern techniques. The grapes are hand-picked and sorted before being fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The wine is then aged in oak barrels for up to 18 months, which gives it a rich and complex flavor.

Château Cos D'Estournel produces a range of wines, including the Grand Vin, which is the flagship wine of the estate. This wine is made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot grapes. It has a deep ruby color and a complex aroma of blackcurrant, cedar, and spice. On the palate, it is full-bodied with firm tannins and a long finish.

The winery also produces a second wine called Les Pagodes de Cos, which is made from younger vines and is aged for a shorter period of time. This wine has a similar flavor profile to the Grand Vin but is more approachable and can be enjoyed at a younger age.

In addition to its red wines, Château Cos D'Estournel also produces a white wine called Cos d'Estournel Blanc. This wine is made from a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon grapes and is aged in oak barrels for up to 12 months. It has a pale yellow color and a complex aroma of citrus, white flowers, and vanilla. On the palate, it is crisp and refreshing with a long finish.

Overall, Château Cos D'Estournel is a world-renowned winery that produces some of the finest wines in the Bordeaux region. Its unique style of production and commitment to quality have earned

Tasting notes

94 Points - The wine Advocate

The 2004 Cos d'Estournel is a blend of 74% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc. Deep garnet in color with a touch of brick, the nose is still very youthful, sporting notions of plum preserves, blackcurrant cordial and Black Forest cake with hints of garrigue, wild sage, charcuterie, black olives and unsmoked cigars. The medium to full-bodied palate is generously fruited with bags of earthy and black fruit preserves layers, framed by chewy tannins and seamless freshness, finishing long.
