Description

Château Coutet is a renowned producer of Sauternes, a sweet white wine from the Bordeaux region of France. The history of the estate dates back to the 17th century, when it was owned by the Lur-Saluces family. In the 18th century, the estate was acquired by the Coutet family, who gave it its current name.

The vineyards of Château Coutet are located in the Barsac appellation, which is known for producing some of the finest Sauternes wines. The estate covers 38 hectares, with 34 hectares planted with vines. The soil is a mix of clay and limestone, which is ideal for the production of Sauternes.

The style of production at Château Coutet is traditional, with a focus on quality and attention to detail. The grapes are harvested by hand, with multiple passes through the vineyard to ensure that only the ripest and healthiest grapes are selected. The grapes are then pressed and fermented in oak barrels, where they undergo a slow and controlled fermentation process.

The wines of Château Coutet are known for their complexity and depth of flavour. They are rich and full-bodied, with a luscious sweetness that is balanced by a refreshing acidity. The wines have a long and lingering finish, with notes of honey, apricot, and citrus.

Château Coutet produces a range of different Sauternes wines, including a grand vin and a second wine. The grand vin is made from a blend of Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, and Muscadelle grapes, while the second wine is made from a blend of Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc.

Overall, Château Coutet is a producer of some of the finest Sauternes wines in the world. Their wines are highly sought after by wine enthusiasts and collectors, and are sure to impress even the most discerning palate.

Tasting notes

93 Points - The wine Advocate

Tasted at the Sauternes 2006 ten-year on horizontal in Bordeaux. The 2006 Coutet has plenty of quince and marmalade scents on the nose, a subtle nuttiness underneath, perhaps a touch of passion fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with harmonious citrus-fresh peach and quince notes. This is very harmonious and focused, driven by a killer line of acidity, and the finish exudes tension and precision. This is a great Barsac from the Coutet team and it will deliver pleasure for many years yet
