Description

Château Villemaurine is a renowned wine producer located in the Saint-Émilion appellation of Bordeaux, France. The history of this estate dates back to the 18th century when it was owned by the Marquis de la Figeac. In 1871, it was purchased by the Cordier family, who were already established wine merchants in Bordeaux. The Cordiers invested heavily in the vineyards and winemaking facilities, and by the mid-20th century, Château Villemaurine had become one of the leading estates in Saint-Émilion.

The vineyards of Château Villemaurine are situated on the limestone plateau of Saint-Émilion, which is known for producing some of the finest wines in the world. The soil here is rich in minerals and provides excellent drainage, which is essential for growing high-quality grapes. The estate covers 20 hectares, with the majority of the vineyards planted with Merlot, which is the dominant grape variety in Saint-Émilion. The remaining vineyards are planted with Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon.

The winemaking at Château Villemaurine is traditional, with a focus on producing wines that reflect the terroir of the vineyards. The grapes are hand-harvested and sorted before being fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The wine is then aged in oak barrels for up to 18 months, depending on the vintage. The oak barrels used are a combination of new and used, which allows the wine to develop complexity and depth of flavour without being overwhelmed by the oak.

The wines of Château Villemaurine are known for their elegance, finesse and balance. They are typically medium to full-bodied, with aromas of black fruit, spice and vanilla. On the palate, the wines are rich and complex, with firm tannins and a long, lingering finish. The wines are capable of ageing for many years, and can develop even greater complexity and depth with time in the bottle.

Château Villemaurine produces several different wines, including a Grand Vin, a second wine called Les Angelots de Villemaurine,
