Description

Soalheiro is a renowned wine producer located in the Vinho Verde region of Portugal. With a rich history dating back to the 17th century, Soalheiro has established itself as a pioneer in the production of high-quality Vinho Verde wines.

The Vinho Verde region, located in the northwest of Portugal, is known for its unique microclimate and fertile soils. This region is characterized by its cool Atlantic breezes and abundant rainfall, creating the perfect conditions for the cultivation of grapes. The name "Vinho Verde" translates to "green wine," which refers to the young and vibrant nature of the wines produced here.

Soalheiro takes pride in its commitment to sustainable and organic viticulture practices. The vineyards are carefully managed to ensure the health and vitality of the vines, resulting in grapes of exceptional quality. The winery embraces traditional winemaking techniques, combined with modern innovations, to create wines that truly reflect the terroir of the region.

One of the standout features of Soalheiro wines is their focus on the Alvarinho grape variety. Alvarinho is a native grape to the Vinho Verde region and is known for its aromatic intensity and vibrant acidity. Soalheiro showcases the true potential of this grape, producing wines that are elegant, complex, and full of character.

The flagship wine of Soalheiro is their Soalheiro Granit. This wine is a true expression of the unique terroir of the region. It is produced from carefully selected Alvarinho grapes grown on granite soils, which impart a distinct mineral character to the wine. The Soalheiro Granit is a dry and crisp white wine, with notes of citrus, tropical fruits, and a subtle floral aroma. It is a perfect accompaniment to seafood dishes or enjoyed on its own as an aperitif.

Soalheiro also produces a range of other wines, each showcasing the versatility of the Alvarinho grape. Their Soalheiro Primeiras Vinhas is made from grapes sourced from the oldest vineyards, resulting in a wine with greater complexity and depth. The Soalheiro Reserva is aged in oak barrels, adding layers of complexity and richness to the wine. And for those seeking a sparkling wine, Soalheiro offers the Soalheiro Espumante, a refreshing and lively option.

In addition to their exceptional wines, Soal

Tasting notes

90 Points - The wine Advocate

The 2021 Alvarinho "Granit" is an unoaked Alvarinho. It is dry and comes in at 12.46% alcohol. This has a somewhat more aggressive profile than the friendly (regular) Alvarinho, with the acidity here a little more prominent. That is completely relative, though. This is more along the lines of what I expected from the regular (or "Classico"). There is some tension in the finish, but the good fruit balances it well. This is, in fact, impeccably balanced and very expressive. It just tastes great. The fruit is more interesting than the structure, and there isn't a lot of nuance or complexity. Perhaps that will come. This property has a reputation for long-lived wines, so there is no rush. I'm not sure this will be the longest-lived example in their history, but it should hold at least a decade from the vintage date. There is really no reason to wait. This is drinking well now.
