Description

Château de Ferrand is a historic wine producer located in the Saint-Émilion appellation of Bordeaux, France. The estate has a long and storied history, dating back to the 17th century when it was founded by the Ferrand family. Over the centuries, the estate has changed hands several times, but it has always remained a top producer of high-quality wines.

The vineyards of Château de Ferrand are situated on a hillside overlooking the Dordogne River, and they benefit from a unique microclimate that is ideal for growing grapes. The soil is a mix of limestone and clay, which gives the wines their distinctive character. The estate is known for its commitment to sustainable farming practices, and it has been certified organic since 2012.

Château de Ferrand produces a range of wines, including a Grand Vin, a second wine called La Grâce de Ferrand, and a white wine made from Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon grapes. The Grand Vin is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon, and it is aged in oak barrels for 18 months before bottling. The wine is known for its rich, complex flavors and aromas of black fruit, spice, and tobacco.

In addition to its red wines, Château de Ferrand also produces a sweet wine called Le Ferrand de Sauternes. This wine is made from Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, and Muscadelle grapes that have been affected by noble rot, a fungus that concentrates the sugars in the grapes and gives the wine its distinctive sweetness. The wine is aged in oak barrels for 18 months before bottling, and it is known for its honeyed flavors and aromas of apricot and peach.

Overall, Château de Ferrand is a top producer of high-quality wines that are known for their complexity, depth, and elegance. Whether you are a seasoned wine connoisseur or a casual drinker, you are sure to appreciate the unique character and flavor of these exceptional wines.

Tasting notes

Located a few kilometres from Saint-Émilion, on the right bank of Bordeaux, the Château de Ferrand, founded in 1702 by Elie de Bétoulaud, was acquired in December 1977 by Baron Bich. Since 1994 his daughter, Pauline, and her husband Philippe Chandon-Moët have taken the reins of the property by infusing numerous improvements and innovations rewarded in 2012 by the classification of Château de Ferrand to the rank of Grand Cru. With great precision, the wines of Château de Ferrand are recognized for their structure and their aromas of very ripe red fruits mixed with delicate freshness and fine tannins.

The wine is crystal clear, with dazzling aromas. On tasting, there is a fine balance and incredible freshness, which is a sign of great potential! Stunning nuances too, carried by notes of flowers and red fruits. The feel in the mouth is velvety, with fresh and silky tannins. Château de Ferrand is a racy wine with a subtle balance and beautiful aromatic richness.
