Description

Taittinger is a renowned Champagne producer that has been crafting exceptional sparkling wines for over 250 years. Situated in the heart of the Champagne region in France, Taittinger has established itself as one of the most prestigious and respected Champagne houses in the world.

The history of Taittinger dates back to 1734 when the Taittinger family first settled in the Champagne region. However, it was not until 1932 that the Taittinger Champagne house was officially founded by Pierre Taittinger. Since then, the family has been dedicated to producing exceptional Champagnes that showcase the unique terroir of the region.

Taittinger is particularly renowned for its Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs, a prestigious Champagne made exclusively from Chardonnay grapes. This exquisite wine is considered one of the finest Blanc de Blancs Champagnes available, known for its elegance, finesse, and exceptional aging potential.

The style of production at Taittinger is characterized by a commitment to traditional methods and a meticulous attention to detail. The grapes used in their Champagnes are sourced from some of the best vineyards in the Champagne region, ensuring the highest quality fruit. The winemaking process involves a delicate balance of modern techniques and traditional craftsmanship, with a focus on preserving the natural flavors and aromas of the grapes.

Taittinger Champagnes are known for their refined and elegant style. The Blanc de Blancs, in particular, showcases the purity and freshness of the Chardonnay grape. It is a wine of great finesse, with delicate floral and citrus notes, a creamy texture, and a long, lingering finish. The Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs is aged for a minimum of 10 years, allowing it to develop complex flavors and a rich, creamy texture.

In addition to their Blanc de Blancs, Taittinger also produces a range of other exceptional Champagnes, including their Brut Réserve, Prestige Rosé, and Nocturne Sec. Each of these wines reflects the unique characteristics of the Champagne region and the Taittinger style.

Taittinger Champagnes have received numerous accolades and awards over the years, solidifying their reputation as one of the top Champagne producers in the world. Their commitment to quality, craftsmanship, and tradition is evident

Tasting notes

The 2011 Brut Blanc de Blancs Comtes de Champagne has generated a certain amount of controversy in critical circles, with appraisals ranging from the condemnatory to the ecstatic, so I was curious to revisit a bottle with some more time on cork. Since I tasted it last year, the wine has tightened up a little, integrating its dosage and showing more of a structural backbone. Exhibiting aromas of crisp stone fruit, buttery pastry, freshly baked bread and hints of fresh hazelnut, it's medium-bodied, pillowy and racy, with an impressively seamless palate and delicate but penetrating finish. It isn't a powerhouse, but I continue to think that it's a genuine success in a challenging year.
